Oil Pump gears - Post 1976 V Belt

Product information

A pair of V belt oil pump gears suitable for Rover V8 engines with a post-1976 V belt front cover. If your distributor has a female drive on the bottom of it, these gears will be correct for your engine. If you need help identifying your engine, please email a few general photos of the engine / front cover to info@v8engines.com and we will assist.
When fitting the oil pump gears, we first fill the oil pump housing with Vaseline, then install the gears and wipe off the excess. Making a mess is worth it to know that there are no air pockets in the oil pump, ensuring the oil pump draws oil successfully on the first start.

RPi Advice

  • The oil pump base should be filled with Vaseline before inserting the gears, which will ensure that the oil pump is primed, reducing the time it takes to get oil pressure on the first start.
  • Oil pump bases can be skimmed, however no material should be removed from the oil pump body as this will increase the clearance around the gears and reduce oil pressure. Instead, use a brand new Stanley blade to run around the walls of the oil pump and "flick out" any deposits of carbon that have worked their way into the pump.
  • If you're suffering from very low oil pressure then the internal condition of your engine should be inspected.
  • RPi recommends Valvoline VR1 20/50 oil for all Rover V8 engines.
