Included in this listing is a complete set of mains bearings for 3.5 3.9 and 4.2 litre Rover V8 engines. These are available in standard size, +10 or +20thou over for cranks that have had the mains journals ground. These are a finished bearing, and as such do not require surfacing after installation however we would recommend using plenty of graphogen grease for protection on the first start.
Technical Specifications
Full set of mains bearings to fit 3.5 3.9 and 4.2
Thrust bearing included
Standard size, +10 and +20 thou oversize bearings available.
On some 3.9 and 4.2 serpentine engines, the locating tab may need filing off on the bearing for number 3 mains cap. We have done this for years in the rare instances that it's required, and never had an issue. This may also mean on some engines the new bearing set will have a full thrust bearing where there was previously only a half thrust bearing.
You are welcome to call us when fitting your bearings if you're unsure or need further guidance.
RPi Advice
We always recommend fitting an ARP stud kit on the non-crossbolted (3.5, 3.9 and 4.2) blocks. The ARP studs have much better sidewall contact on the mains cap between the cap and stud. This stops the mains cap "walking" as it can if standard bolts are used - Rover themselves knew this was an issue which is why cross bolts were added to the mains caps on 4.0 and 4.6 engines.
Take care when installing new shells to ensure the surfaces aren't damaged on installation - burred bearings will cause premature wear on your engine.
We recommend using graphogen grease on the bearings when installing to protect them on the first start. We also recommend coating the journals on the crank with plenty of engine oil when installing for further protection.
